Technology & Innovations

The Waste-to-Ethanol production concept is an easy-to-install, dispersed production process that makes small scale ethanol production economically profitable.

At the same time keeping the associated CO2 footprint at minimum makes this a unique production concept on the market today.

The Etanolix® innovation

The very first part of the technology needed for the waste to ethanol concept was developed in VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) by D.Tech. Antti Pasanen, one of the founders of St1 Biofuels Oy. Antti Pasanen worked as a researcher in VTT at that time.

The development work of the concept and the technology has started in 2004. The waste to ethanol concept today can use a varius wastes and industrial sidestreams as well as produce the best possible by-products.

St1's bioethanol plants in the future will use also sellulose based wastes e.g. packaking waste and straw in bioethanol production.

St1's Etanolix® Techology has been awarded many times

St1's dispersed ethanol production concept - Etanolix® has been awarded for its innovativenes in Finland and also abroad.
